Marbella sits at the heart of the Costa del Sol and has been one of Europe's most sought-after golf destinations for over half a century. With more than 40 courses within an hour's drive, a concentration of five-star hotels that few European resorts can match and a coastline that plays reliably from October through to April, it makes a compelling case as the premier destination for a luxury golf break in Spain.
Whether you are organising a high-end society trip, a couples break or a week where the golf is taken seriously and the evenings are equally well catered for, this guide covers the best hotels, the courses worth playing, the areas to consider and what to do when the clubs are put away. For packages and availability, visit our Marbella golf holidays page, or browse all golf holidays we offer across the world's best destinations.
Marbella has something that other Costa del Sol resorts do not quite replicate: a genuine combination of exceptional golf access and a broader resort offer that holds up at the premium end. The old town is worth an evening, Puerto Banus is the marina you have seen in photographs and the concentration of five-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and high-end spa operations means the experience beyond the fairways matches the quality of the courses themselves.
The golf infrastructure has been built up over decades. Courses like Aloha, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas and La Quinta are established layouts with strong reputations. The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort and Spa sits adjacent to La Quinta course. The Sotogrande courses -- including Valderrama -- are within an hour's drive for groups who want to add a prestige round to the itinerary. And the sheer number of layouts in the area means a week can be planned across genuinely varied terrain without repeating yourself.
One of the most established courses on the Costa del Sol, Aloha is set in the hills behind Puerto Banus among mature pine and eucalyptus trees. A traditional parkland layout that has hosted multiple European Tour events. Best suited to mid-to-low handicappers who appreciate course management over raw length.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and one of the most respected courses in Andalusia. Las Brisas has hosted the World Cup of Golf and remains one of the most enjoyable rounds in the area for golfers who value quality of design and a genuine sense of occasion.
Three nine-hole loops that can be combined into three different 18-hole layouts, giving groups flexibility across multiple days. The Westin La Quinta sits adjacent to the course, making it the most convenient base for golfers who want to walk from hotel to first tee.
Another Robert Trent Jones Sr. design in the Nueva Andalucia golf valley. A mature, characterful course with water features and a strong test for golfers of all standards. A consistent choice for visiting golfers based across the Marbella area.
Set in the hills above the coast with dramatic views down to the Mediterranean. A well-maintained layout connected to one of the most famous names in Marbella hospitality. Suits golfers who want scenery and quality in equal measure.
Strictly speaking outside Marbella but within an hour's drive and worth the mention for any serious golfer. The 1997 Ryder Cup venue remains one of the finest courses in continental Europe and a legitimate bucket-list addition for groups with the ambition to match. See our Sotogrande golf holidays page for more.
The four properties below represent the top end of what Marbella offers for a golf holiday -- all five-star, all with strong course access and all with enough on site to make the days off from golf feel as well considered as the days on. The standout luxury option in Marbella by most measures. A five-star beachfront hotel with an exceptional spa, multiple pools, strong dining and the kind of service that justifies the premium. Within a straightforward drive of the Nueva Andalucia courses. For couples, small groups and anyone for whom the hotel matters as much as the golf, this is the one to start with.

ME Marbella
A boutique-leaning five-star on the Marbella beachfront with a design-led aesthetic and a lifestyle focus. Smaller and more intimate than Los Monteros, it suits couples who want a genuine sense of occasion without the scale of a large resort property. Strong food and beverage offer with Marbella old town within easy reach.

The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa
The most golf-specific of the luxury options. Sitting directly adjacent to La Quinta Golf and Country Club, it offers something the Marbella beachfront hotels cannot: the ability to walk from your room to the first tee. Three nine-hole course configurations, full spa and wellness facilities and the Westin brand's consistent standard of service. The obvious choice for groups where the golf comes first.
View Holiday ›Marbella is not one single area -- the stretch of coastline and the hills behind it cover several distinct zones, each with a different character and different course access. Understanding which area suits your group is worth thinking through before you book.
The historic centre and the stretch of beachfront east and west of it is where the majority of the luxury hotels are concentrated. Good for couples and groups who want the full Marbella experience -- beach, old town, restaurants and golf within reasonable transfer distance. Kimpton Los Monteros, ME Marbella and Amare are all in this zone.
The cluster of courses behind Puerto Banus -- Aloha, Las Brisas, Los Naranjos and several others -- makes this the densest concentration of quality golf within the Marbella area. Staying in or near Nueva Andalucia reduces transfers significantly. The Westin La Quinta is the primary luxury hotel option here, sitting directly on the La Quinta course.
The marina village 6km west of Marbella town suits groups who want the social scene, the harbour atmosphere and straightforward access to the Nueva Andalucia courses. Occidental Puerto Banus and Hotel Blue Bay Banus are both within walking distance of the marina.
Just west of Marbella, Estepona is a step quieter in character and gives access to several strong courses including the on-site course at Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park and the spa and thalasso facilities at Elba Estepona Gran Hotel and Thalasso Spa. Good value relative to central Marbella while retaining easy access to the same courses.
Kimpton Los Monteros, ME Marbella and Amare Beach Hotel Marbella are the three strongest options. All beachfront, all five-star, all with dining and leisure that make evenings feel as considered as the golf.
The Westin La Quinta is the most practical base. Three course configurations on site, full resort facilities and space for larger parties. Groups of eight or more -- ask our team about free place availability.
Kimpton Los Monteros leads for spa quality within Marbella. Elba Estepona Gran Hotel and Thalasso Spa is the standout dedicated thalassotherapy option if spa is the primary consideration.
Marbella town is one of the stronger bases on the Costa del Sol for non-golfers. The old town, beaches, Puerto Banus, Ronda and Gibraltar all give genuine substance for a full week without a car.
The Westin La Quinta for on-site access. Add rounds at Aloha, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos, and consider a day trip to Valderrama in Sotogrande for a genuinely bucket-list round.
Barcelo Marbella and Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park both offer access to the same courses at a noticeably lower price point. See the full options below.
Not every group needs five-star. The hotels below give access to the same Marbella courses at a lower price point and are worth considering for groups where budget flexibility matters alongside the quality of the golf.

Marbella's climate is one of the most dependable on the Costa del Sol. Temperatures sit between 16 and 22 degrees from October through to April, with very little rain across most of the autumn and winter months.
The main season for UK golfers. December and January are particularly popular with those escaping poor home conditions and remain genuinely viable for golf. February can occasionally bring rain but rarely disrupts a full week. March and April are arguably the finest months -- the courses are green after the winter rains and the resort is well below summer capacity.
Excellent conditions -- warm, uncrowded and with strong course availability. Good mid-week value on both flights and accommodation. May and June tend to be underrated by golfers who focus on the winter peak months.
Temperatures regularly exceed 35 degrees by midday. Early morning tee times are the norm and afternoon golf is uncomfortable. For groups where non-golfers are happy by the pool or beach, it can work well, but for a focused golf trip it is not the optimal time.
One of the best months in Marbella. Sea temperatures remain warm from the summer, the weather is settled, courses are quieter than the winter peak and prices on flights and hotels tend to be lower. Consistently underrated and worth prioritising if you have flexibility.
Marbella old town is one of the most attractive in Andalusia -- the Plaza de los Naranjos, the whitewashed lanes and the restaurants along Calle Ancha are worth an evening at minimum. The old town is 20 minutes from most of the beachfront hotels on foot.
Puerto Banus is 6km west of Marbella town. Walk the harbour, look at the boats and have lunch at one of the terrace restaurants. It is worth seeing regardless of whether the scene is your usual thing.
Ronda is an hour inland and one of the most dramatic towns in southern Spain -- a city built on a gorge with a famous 18th-century bridge. A consistently strong day trip from Marbella and genuinely worth the drive.
Gibraltar is around an hour and a half west. The cable car to the top of the Rock, the Barbary macaques and a walk around the old town make for an easy and worthwhile afternoon.
Food in Marbella ranges from excellent traditional Andalusian tapas in the old town to high-end dining along the Golden Mile. Fresh fish and seafood at the beachfront chiringuitos is worth prioritising -- grilled sea bass and espetos are both things specific to this coastline.
The right answer depends on what your group is looking for. For a luxury all-round experience, Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella is the strongest option -- beachfront, five-star spa and close to the Nueva Andalucia courses. For golf-first groups, The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort and Spa is the most practical base, sitting directly adjacent to La Quinta course. For couples who want something more boutique, ME Marbella or Amare Beach Hotel Marbella are both strong choices.
There are more than 40 golf courses within an hour's drive of Marbella, with the highest concentration in the Nueva Andalucia golf valley immediately behind Puerto Banus. Aloha, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos are among the best-known, with La Quinta and the Marbella Club course also highly regarded. Valderrama in Sotogrande is within an hour's drive for groups who want a prestige round.
March, April, October and November are the most reliable months. Temperatures are comfortable for a full day's play, courses are in good condition and the resort is well below summer capacity. September is also an excellent choice and often underpriced relative to the quality of conditions on offer.
Yes. Marbella has one of the stronger non-golf offers on the Costa del Sol -- the old town, Puerto Banus marina, the beaches, day trips to Ronda and Gibraltar and a strong restaurant and leisure scene all give non-golfing partners genuine substance for a full week without needing to organise much in advance.
